Diljit Dosanjh says he got flak for Sardaar Ji 3, yet India-Pakistan cricket continues

Diljit Dosanjh Breaks Silence on Sardaarji 3 Controversy

Kuala Lumpur, September 25, 2025: Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has addressed the controversy surrounding his upcoming film Sardaarji 3, clarifying the timeline of its production and responding to criticism over his association with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir.

Speaking during a live concert in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, a video of which has since gone viral on social media platform X, Dosanjh explained that the movie was filmed in February, well before the Pahalgam attack in April, which escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.

Clarification on Timeline

“When my film Sardaarji 3 was shot in February, the matches between India and Pakistan were still being played,” Dosanjh told the audience. He added that while the cricket fixtures continued even after the tragic incident, his film was unfairly linked to controversy.

Expressing grief over the April 22 attack, Dosanjh said:

“At that time, and even now, I pray that whoever was responsible should receive strict punishment.”

Response to Criticism

The actor revealed he had remained silent despite being labelled “anti-national” by sections of the media earlier this year. “I kept quiet, kept everything inside me. There are many things to say. But everyone knows a Punjabi Sardar can never be a traitor,” he said, while saluting the Indian national flag during the concert.

Background of the Controversy

Dosanjh faced backlash earlier in 2025 after it was revealed that Pakistani star Hania Aamir was part of Sardaarji 3. The decision to release the movie internationally without reshoots—except in India—was criticised by some groups.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had even called for Dosanjh to be blacklisted from the industry, while also demanding the cancellation of his Indian citizenship.

Looking Ahead

With Sardaarji 3 scheduled for worldwide release later this year, Dosanjh’s clarification comes as an attempt to set the record straight and address ongoing debate about his role in the project.
