Martinook Scores in Double Overtime to Give Hurricanes 3-2 Win Over Senators

Jordan Martinook scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators, giving Carolina a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series.

Martinook found the net at 13:53 of the second overtime, finishing a play set up by Nikolaj Ehlers. The goal came shortly after Martinook had missed a penalty shot earlier in overtime, making his eventual winner even more significant.

The Hurricanes showed resilience throughout the game. Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, they allowed Ottawa to fight back and force overtime. Carolina also had a potential winning goal by Mark Jankowski overturned due to an offside review during the first overtime period.

Earlier in overtime, Martinook had a chance to end the game on a penalty shot, but Linus Ullmark made the save to keep Ottawa in the contest.

Reflecting on the moment, Martinook admitted the missed opportunity weighed on him but was relieved to contribute later. He said the win was a team effort and emphasized that the result mattered more than who scored.

The victory gives Carolina strong momentum in the series as they continue their playoff campaign in the National Hockey League (NHL).
