Price Monitoring Committee Says Transport Fares Stable, Chicken Prices Ease
ISLAMABAD: The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) has reported that transport fares have remained stable, while chicken prices have declined after earlier fluctuations linked to regional developments.
A meeting of the committee was held on Friday, chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. Officials stated that transport fares had not recorded any recent increase, although no detailed breakdown was shared regarding intra-city or inter-city fare structures.
The committee noted that poultry prices, which had risen during recent market volatility, have now returned to earlier levels.
Officials from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics briefed the meeting on current inflation trends and market conditions. The committee reviewed prices of essential commodities and discussed the impact of recent policy measures on overall stability.
The minister expressed satisfaction over stable fertiliser prices despite global market pressures, calling it a positive sign for the domestic economy. He also highlighted that steps taken by provincial governments are helping improve price stability.
To further strengthen supply systems, the minister stressed the need for improved cold chain infrastructure in the poultry sector and directed authorities to prepare proposals within a few days.
The meeting also discussed the growing gap between wholesale and retail prices in some cities and urged provincial authorities to ensure better coordination in pricing.
Concerns were also raised over the availability of substandard food products in rural markets, with instructions issued for stricter monitoring and enforcement.
The NPMC said it will continue holding weekly meetings to track price movements and recommend policy responses to manage inflation and ensure stable supply of essential goods across the country.
