Police Station Established Inside Karachi University Campus Sparks Concerns

Aziz Bhatti Police Station has been relocated to the Science Campus of Federal Urdu University in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, according to official and campus sources.

The move has reportedly shifted parts of the police station’s operations, including sections of the investigation wing, inside the university premises, with additional departments expected to begin functioning from the new site in the coming days.

Partial Shift of Police Operations

Sources said preparations are underway for the Station House Officer (SHO) office, while some police staff have already started working from the campus location.

The relocation is being carried out behind the university’s BSc block, where space has been allocated near academic buildings. Authorities indicated that the arrangement has been approved for an initial period of six months.

Concerns Raised by Students and Staff

The development has raised concerns among students and faculty members, who say increased police activity inside the campus is affecting the academic environment.

Some students expressed worry over the movement of suspects and police vehicles through entrances commonly used by students and staff, including those accessing examination departments.

Administrative Questions Over Approval

University sources also indicated confusion regarding the approval process, with the registrar reportedly stating that he was not aware of issuing any formal permission letter for the relocation.

He added that the campus administration officer may provide further clarification on how the decision was finalized.

Call for Review of Campus Setup

Faculty members and students have urged authorities to review the arrangement, stressing that educational institutions should maintain a calm and secure academic atmosphere while ensuring necessary security measures are handled appropriately outside sensitive academic zones.
