Pakistan Secures Spot LNG Cargo to Support Summer Energy Demand

Pakistan has procured a spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo for delivery on June 6-7 as part of efforts to strengthen energy supplies during the high-demand summer season.

According to tender documents issued by Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), BP Singapore submitted the lowest evaluated bid at $19.13 per MMBtu. Other qualified offers ranged from $19.14 to $19.94 per MMBtu.

The procurement is aimed at supporting domestic energy requirements, particularly for power generation and other sectors experiencing increased demand during the summer months.

The tender attracted participation from several international energy suppliers, including BP Singapore, Vitol Bahrain, TotalEnergies Gas & Power, and SOCAR Trading.

BP Singapore’s bid was selected as the most competitive among the offers received through the tender process.

Pakistan primarily meets its LNG requirements through long-term supply agreements, while spot market purchases are occasionally made to supplement supplies when additional demand arises or when operational requirements make extra cargoes necessary.

Industry observers noted that recent global energy market conditions and seasonal demand trends have influenced LNG pricing across international markets.

The LNG cargo is scheduled to arrive at Port Qasim on June 6-7 and is expected to contribute to maintaining energy supply stability during the ongoing summer period.

The procurement reflects Pakistan’s continued efforts to ensure adequate fuel availability and support the country’s energy needs through a combination of long-term contracts and strategic spot market purchases.
