Punjab Ends Free Travel Facility on Metro, Orange Line and Electric Buses
The Punjab government has decided to discontinue the free travel facility on metro bus, Orange Line train, Speedo and electric bus services from tomorrow, officials confirmed.
According to sources, nearly 800,000 passengers daily were benefiting from the free travel initiative introduced under a public relief package in April 2026.
The scheme had been launched to provide temporary relief to citizens amid rising transport costs and inflation.
Ticket System to Be Restored
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) said that from tomorrow, the regular ticketing system will be reinstated in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
Passengers using public transport services will now be required to pay standard fares again as the free travel facility comes to an end.
Officials added that the decision aims to normalize operations and ensure the financial sustainability of the mass transit system.
