Punjab Government Approves Rs. 150 Million Grant for Hockey Development
The Punjab government has approved a grant of Rs. 150 million for the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to support the development and promotion of hockey across the country.
According to an official statement, the funding was approved on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif following a request submitted by the PHF.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee chaired by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb. The meeting was attended by the Provincial Finance Minister, Secretary Finance, Secretary Sports, and other senior officials.
The grant will be utilized to strengthen hockey at the grassroots level, identify and nurture young talent, enhance coaching standards, improve technical development programs, and support capacity-building initiatives within the sport.
The Punjab government stated that the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting national sports and contributing to the growth of hockey, which has a rich history in Pakistan.
A spokesperson for the Pakistan Hockey Federation expressed appreciation to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and the Punjab government for their support.
According to the federation, the financial assistance will help improve hockey infrastructure, support player development programs, and create opportunities for emerging athletes across Pakistan.
