Karachi Bus Operators Announce Indefinite Strike Over Traffic Fines
Bus operators in Karachi have announced an indefinite strike starting June 18, citing concerns over increased traffic fines and enforcement measures against public transport vehicles.
According to the Karachi Bus Owners Association, the decision has been taken in response to what they describe as rising financial pressure due to penalties issued under traffic regulations. The association stated that public transport services may be suspended across the city as part of the protest.
The association’s leadership has urged bus owners to keep their vehicles off the roads in support of the strike, adding that the action will continue until their concerns are addressed through dialogue with relevant authorities.
If implemented, the strike could significantly impact daily commuters who rely on public transport for travel across Karachi.
Traffic authorities have recently increased enforcement efforts in the city, focusing on violations such as wrong-way driving and other road safety concerns. Officials have also introduced new monitoring systems and teams to improve traffic flow and compliance with regulations.
