Motorway Police Clarify Speed Limit Rules Remain Unchanged

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have clarified that the speed limit on Pakistan’s motorways has not been restored to 120 km/h, dismissing recent social media claims as inaccurate.

According to officials, the current speed restrictions introduced earlier this year are still in effect, and motorists are required to follow the existing limits.

The clarification comes after reports circulated online suggesting that the government had reverted to the previous motorway speed limit for cars and light transport vehicles.

Authorities explained that the revised limits were introduced in March 2026 as part of broader measures aimed at improving fuel efficiency and managing energy consumption during a period of rising fuel costs.

Under the current rules, speed limits for different vehicle categories remain lower than the earlier standard, and enforcement continues across national highways and motorways.

Motorway Police officials have urged the public to rely on verified announcements and avoid misinformation regarding traffic regulations.

They added that any future changes to speed limits would be formally communicated through official government channels.
