Islamabad Issues Traffic Advisory for 9th Muharram Procession
The Islamabad Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for the central 9th Muharram procession, with temporary road closures and traffic diversions scheduled to ensure smooth movement and public safety.
According to the traffic advisory, the main procession will begin from Imambargah Isna Ashari in G-6/2 at 1:00 pm. Traffic arrangements will be implemented from 7:00 am and remain in effect until the procession concludes.
Procession Route
The procession will travel through G-6 Service Road and Saddar Road before passing through Street 33, Street 40, Municipal Road, Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, Aabpara Police Station and Polyclinic. The route will continue along Luqman Hakeem Road before returning to Imambargah Isna Ashari in G-6/2.
Roads Affected
Several major roads will experience temporary closures during the event, including:
- Fazal-e-Haq Road between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk
- Suhrawardy Road on designated sections near Seventh Avenue and Blue Area
- Saddar Road from Iqbal Hall to Melody Chowk
- Municipal Road between Lal Masjid, Shuhada Chowk and GPO Chowk
- Luqman Hakeem Road from Polyclinic to Iqbal Hall
Alternative Routes
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including:
- Jinnah Avenue
- Margalla Road
- Shaheed-e-Millat Road
- Open sections of Suhrawardy Road
Traffic officials have encouraged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and expect possible delays in areas surrounding the procession route.
Public Advisory
Authorities have requested citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel, follow road signs and avoid unnecessary travel near the procession route during peak hours.
Participants attending the procession have also been advised to park their vehicles only in designated parking areas to help maintain smooth traffic flow and public convenience.
The traffic plan aims to facilitate both procession participants and the general public while ensuring orderly movement across the capital during Muharram observances.
