Islamabad High Court Temporarily Suspends Extra Toll Charges for Vehicles Without M-Tags

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has temporarily stopped the National Highway Authority (NHA) from collecting additional toll charges from motorists for not using an M-Tag or for having an insufficient balance in their M-Tag accounts.

The interim relief was granted by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir while hearing a petition challenging the NHA’s notification that introduced a 50 percent additional toll for vehicles without an active M-Tag or with inadequate account balance.

Court Suspends Notification

The court suspended the implementation of the notification until the next hearing, meaning the additional toll charges cannot be collected during this period.

The matter is scheduled to be heard again on August 3, when the court will review the case further.

Notices Issued to NHA

The Islamabad High Court also issued notices to the National Highway Authority and other respondents, directing them to submit their responses before the next hearing.

The petitioner was represented by Advocate Muhammad Jalal Haider, who challenged the legality of the additional toll charges.

Until the court issues a final decision, motorists will not be required to pay the extra toll imposed under the suspended notification.
