Sindh Drug Laboratory Flags 79 Medicines, Herbal Products, and Syringes Over Quality Concerns

July 14, 2026

The Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh has identified 79 samples of medicines, herbal products, and syringes that failed to meet required quality standards during routine testing conducted this year.

According to the laboratory’s latest report, 2,461 samples were examined between January and July 13, 2026. Following laboratory analysis, 79 samples were classified as substandard, non-compliant, or otherwise unsuitable under applicable quality standards.

Syringes Among Products Under Review

The report states that 30 samples of auto-disable syringes did not meet the required specifications. Auto-disable syringes are designed for single use to help prevent reuse, but the tested samples reportedly did not function as intended.

Health experts caution that the reuse of syringes may increase the risk of transmitting blood-borne infections, including HIV and hepatitis, highlighting the importance of using properly certified medical equipment.

Concerns Over Herbal Products

Laboratory testing also found that 20 herbal products contained allopathic (conventional pharmaceutical) ingredients. The findings have raised questions about product labeling, ingredient disclosure, and regulatory compliance.

Unregistered Medicines Identified

In addition, the report noted that nine medicines were found to be unregistered with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).

The findings are expected to support ongoing regulatory efforts aimed at improving the quality, safety, and compliance of medicines and medical products available in the market.
