SANTO DOMINGO: Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands continued their impressive form in the women’s softball competition at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, remaining unbeaten after three days of preliminary-round action.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic and Cuba also strengthened their chances of reaching the semifinals with important victories.

Puerto Rico Maintains Perfect Record

Puerto Rico improved to 3-0 in Group A with a 3-0 victory over Venezuela.

Pitcher Aleisha Ocasio delivered an outstanding complete-game performance, allowing just one hit while recording nine strikeouts. Puerto Rico scored its first run in the second inning before adding two more late in the game to secure the win.

At the plate, Ashley Rivera and Mylena Cintrón each contributed two hits as Puerto Rico continued its unbeaten run. Venezuela dropped to 1-2 in the group standings.

Dominican Republic Boosts Semifinal Hopes

The Dominican Republic earned a valuable 4-2 victory over Guatemala, improving its Group A record to 2-1.

The hosts built an early lead with two runs in the opening inning and maintained control throughout the game.

Aris Rijo drove in two runs, while starting pitcher Aylin Gómez limited Guatemala to two hits and struck out six batters over seven innings.

Despite drawing several walks, Guatemala was unable to capitalize on enough scoring opportunities.

US Virgin Islands Defeat Mexico

In Group B, the US Virgin Islands defeated Mexico 6-3 to remain unbeaten and move into sole possession of first place.

After Mexico briefly took the lead in the third inning, the US Virgin Islands responded with timely hitting and added three runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.

The team recorded 12 hits, including a home run by Aaliyah Hastings and triples from Rachel Christan and Jada Cooper.

The win improved the US Virgin Islands to 3-0, while Mexico suffered its first defeat of the tournament.

Race for the Semifinals Continues

With the preliminary stage entering its next phase, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands remain the only undefeated teams in the competition.

The Dominican Republic, Mexico, Cuba, and other participating teams will continue battling for the remaining semifinal positions as the tournament progresses.
