Punjab to Introduce Athlete Cards for Top-Performing Sportsmen
The Punjab government is preparing to introduce CM Punjab Athlete Cards for high-performing athletes, with financial assistance from the Punjab Sports Endowment Fund set to be distributed through the new digital payment system.
The development was discussed during a meeting chaired by Punjab Sports Secretary Fazal-ur-Rehman at Punjab Stadium. Officials reviewed the process for issuing the cards as well as the mechanism that will be used to transfer payments directly to athletes.
More Than 300 Athletes to Receive Cards Initially
According to officials, more than 300 athletes will receive the Athlete Cards during the initial phase of the programme.
The cards will be provided to leading performers from various sporting disciplines, including kabaddi, tennis and hockey.
The initiative is aimed at making financial support for athletes more accessible while creating a structured digital system for distributing payments.
Bank of Punjab Briefs Officials
Representatives of the Bank of Punjab (BoP) provided details about the proposed Athlete Card system during the meeting.
Officials were briefed on the card’s features and the digital mechanism that will facilitate payments from the Sports Endowment Fund to eligible athletes.
The system is expected to streamline the distribution of financial assistance and make the payment process more convenient for recipients.
Government Focuses on Supporting Athletes
The Athlete Card initiative is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to provide greater financial support to athletes who perform at a high level in different sports.
By linking the cards with the Sports Endowment Fund, the government intends to establish a dedicated mechanism through which deserving athletes can receive their financial assistance.
The meeting was attended by DG Sports Punjab Tariq Qureshi, Additional Secretary Sports Shabbir Hussain Cheema, Director Admin Abid Shaukat, Director Youth Affairs M. Fahad, along with senior representatives of the Bank of Punjab and other officials.
