Special Polio Vaccination Campaign Begins in Rawalpindi
A special polio vaccination campaign has started across 13 districts of Punjab, with nearly one million children under the age of five targeted for vaccination in Rawalpindi.
More than 8,000 vaccination workers have been deployed across Rawalpindi to administer polio drops to children during the campaign, which will continue from September 21 to 27.
Door-to-Door Vaccination in Rawalpindi
Chief Executive Officer of the District Health Authority Rawalpindi, Dr Ehsan Ghani, said ensuring vaccination for every child under five remains a key priority.
According to the health authorities, vaccination teams will visit households across the district. Children can also receive polio drops at designated transit points and hospitals.
Special attention is being given to areas considered high-risk as well as locations with significant population movement.
Transit Teams to Reach Travelling Children
Health officials said population movement can make it difficult to reach children who are away from their homes during vaccination campaigns.
To address this issue, mobile, fixed and transit teams have been deployed at different locations across Rawalpindi.
Officials said transit vaccination is intended to ensure that children travelling through the district also have access to polio vaccination.
Parents have been urged to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that all children under five receive polio drops during the campaign.
Follow-Up of Missed Children
Health teams will also monitor the campaign and identify children who could not be vaccinated during household visits.
Field teams will conduct follow-up visits to ensure that missed children receive their polio drops before the campaign ends.
More Than 10 Million Children Targeted Across Punjab
Across Punjab, more than 10 million children are being targeted during the campaign.
A total of 39,774 vaccination teams, including mobile, fixed and transit teams, are participating in the campaign.
The campaign is being conducted in full or selected areas of 13 districts. In Lahore, vaccination activities will continue for seven days until September 27, while the campaign in other targeted districts will continue for four days.
