Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie Reportedly in Development at Paramount
Paramount Pictures is reportedly working on a live-action film adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, the popular role-playing game developed by CD Projekt RED. However, the studio and game developer have not officially confirmed the project, and details about the upcoming movie remain limited.
If the reported plans move forward, the adaptation could bring the futuristic world of Night City to the big screen, introducing audiences to the game’s dystopian setting, advanced technology and complex characters.
Veteran Hollywood producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is reportedly attached to the project. He has extensive experience working on major film franchises, including Transformers, G.I. Joe, Bumblebee, The Meg, Constantine, RED and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. His previous work spans action films, science fiction and established entertainment properties.
Di Bonaventura’s reported involvement has also sparked speculation about whether Keanu Reeves could return as Johnny Silverhand. Reeves played the iconic character in Cyberpunk 2077, contributing to the game’s story through a prominent performance. The producer has worked with the actor on previous projects, but no casting announcements have been made, and Reeves’ participation remains unconfirmed.
Several key details about the film are still unknown. There has been no official announcement regarding the director, screenwriter, cast, production timeline or release date. It is also unclear whether the movie will adapt the events of the video game or introduce a new story set within the same fictional universe.
Released in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in Night City, a sprawling metropolis shaped by powerful corporations, cybernetic enhancements and social inequality. Players follow mercenary V as they navigate a dangerous world filled with technological advancements, criminal organisations and personal conflicts.
The game has become one of CD Projekt RED’s most commercially successful titles, with reported sales exceeding 40 million copies. Its expansion, Phantom Liberty, has also achieved significant success, surpassing 15 million copies sold.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt RED is working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The follow-up remains in pre-production, with a release not expected until around 2030 or potentially later.
For now, the reported live-action adaptation remains in its early stages, and fans will have to wait for official announcements to learn more about its creative direction, cast and expected release.
