Arshad Nadeem Reaches Commonwealth Games 2026 Javelin Final, Neeraj Chopra Also Qualifies

Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has secured his place in the men’s javelin throw final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after delivering his best throw of the season during the qualification round in Glasgow.
Competing in challenging weather conditions at Scotstoun Stadium, Arshad registered a throw of 78.63 metres, finishing seventh overall and comfortably earning a spot in the 12-man final.
According to the competition rules, athletes who throw 84.00 metres or more automatically qualify for the final. As no competitor reached the automatic mark, the top 12 performers advanced based on their best throws.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage led the qualification round with a throw of 82.84 metres, followed by Anderson Peters (81.29m) of Grenada and Douw Smit (80.64m) of South Africa.
India’s Neeraj Chopra, a former Commonwealth Games champion, also booked his place in the final after recording 79.61 metres, finishing fifth overall.
Pakistan’s second representative, Muhammad Yasir, produced a season-best throw of 74.36 metres but narrowly missed qualification, finishing 14th.
Former world champion Julius Yego of Kenya also failed to qualify after finishing 13th with 74.50 metres.
Commonwealth Games 2026 Javelin Final
The men’s javelin throw final will take place on Saturday, where Arshad Nadeem will aim to defend the Commonwealth Games title he won in Birmingham 2022 and add another major international medal to his remarkable career.
