Balochistan Allocates Rs96 Billion for Healthcare in 2026–27 Budget

The Government of Balochistan has allocated Rs96 billion for the healthcare sector in its budget for the fiscal year 2026–27, reflecting a significant increase compared to the previous year’s allocation.

While presenting the provincial budget, Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani said that improving healthcare services remains an important focus of the government due to its role in supporting public well-being and socio-economic development.

According to budget details, Rs6 billion has been allocated for development projects, while Rs90 billion has been set aside for operational and non-development expenditures. The funding is intended to support healthcare infrastructure, medical services, and public health programs across the province.

Several healthcare initiatives and institutions have received dedicated allocations. Funding has been earmarked for the New Trauma Centre in Quetta, aimed at strengthening emergency medical services. The budget for the Balochistan Health Card Program has also been increased, while additional resources have been allocated to the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) to support healthcare delivery in various regions.

The provincial government has also increased funding for medicines to help ensure the availability of essential drugs in public healthcare facilities.

Specialized healthcare services are included in the budget, with allocations for thalassaemia treatment centers in Kech and Gwadar, as well as additional funding for the Sheikh Zayed Bin Al Nahyan Institute of Cardiology.

To support the healthcare workforce, funds have been allocated for postgraduate medical training and house officer programs. The budget also provides for the recruitment of additional personnel in the health department.

Further allocations have been made for several hospitals and healthcare facilities, including medical centers in Mastung, Quetta, Dalbandin, and Pasni. In addition, resources have been set aside for the Balochistan Nutrition Programme, which focuses on improving nutrition and supporting maternal and child health services.

Officials said the enhanced healthcare budget is intended to improve medical infrastructure, expand access to healthcare services, and strengthen the province’s public health system in the coming fiscal year.
