Caver Rescued from 120-Metre-Deep Cave in Northern Italy After Overnight Operation
A caver who became trapped deep underground in northern Italy has been successfully rescued following an extensive overnight operation involving emergency teams.
According to Italian emergency services, the man was stuck approximately 120 metres (394 feet) inside a cave after his leg became pinned under a boulder in the Cuneo province, about 120 kilometres south of Turin.
The rescue took place in the Grotta dei Cinghiali Volanti, a well-known caving site in north-west Italy. A total of 53 rescue workers participated in the coordinated operation.
Rescue teams first provided medical assistance at a temporary treatment point set up inside the cave before carefully bringing the individual to the surface.
Officials said the man was later transported to hospital by ambulance for further evaluation. Medical staff determined that he did not require stretcher evacuation through the entire cave system.
The caver, an Italian national reported to be in his early 20s, was successfully brought out without serious complications.
Authorities praised the coordinated efforts of rescue personnel from different regions of Italy, highlighting the complexity of underground rescue operations in difficult terrain.
