Islamabad Police to Recruit Over 8,000 Personnel in Major Workforce Expansion
The Islamabad Capital Police is set to significantly expand its workforce after the federal government approved the creation of more than 8,000 new positions to improve policing, strengthen public safety, and address staffing shortages.
According to police officials, 8,046 new personnel will be recruited in multiple phases. The first phase has already begun, and for the first time, recruitment will be carried out on a cadre-wise basis, allowing officers to serve within specialized departments throughout their careers.
Currently, Islamabad Police has an approved strength of 11,654 positions, with around 9,754 officers actively serving. The latest recruitment drive is expected to boost operational capacity across several departments, including Operations, Logistics, Security, the Safe City Islamabad Authority, and the Law and Order Division.
Recruitment to Be Completed in Phases
Officials said the first phase includes the recruitment of 1,725 constables and assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) for the Operations, Logistics, and Security divisions.
Future recruitment phases will add personnel to key units such as:
- Counter Terrorism Department (CTD)
- Islamabad Traffic Police
- Special Protection Unit (SPU)
- Capital Patrol
- Law and Order Division
New Cadre-Based System
Under the new recruitment model, officers will remain within their assigned departments instead of being transferred between different wings. Officials believe this approach will help develop a more specialized and experienced workforce while improving operational efficiency.
The government has also introduced age limits for field assignments in selected operational units, including the CTD, Capital Patrol, and Law and Order Division. Personnel who exceed the prescribed age for field duties will be reassigned to other suitable roles.
The expanded recruitment initiative is expected to strengthen Islamabad Police’s overall capacity and enhance its ability to deliver efficient law enforcement and public safety services across the capital.
