⚖️ Concerns Over Use of Criminal Cases
Police officials speaking on condition of anonymity stated that although fines exist for such violations, FIRs were registered in cases involving serious offences such as speeding, one-wheeling, and red-light violations.
They also referred to an Islamabad High Court observation from October 2025, which cautioned against criminalizing minor traffic violations and emphasized proportional enforcement of the law.
🚧 Impact on Drivers
Officials noted that FIRs can have long-term consequences for citizens, potentially affecting:
- Employment opportunities
- Visa applications
- Educational admissions
Although Section 279 is a bailable offence, individuals are required to appear in court for bail proceedings.
📌 Conclusion
The reported increase in FIR registrations for traffic violations has sparked debate over enforcement practices and proportionality in policing. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
