Japan became the first team to qualify for the Play-offs at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2026 Group Lima, securing a top-two finish after another impressive performance on Day 3 of the Opening Round.
The defending world champions improved their record to 4-0 with an 8-0 victory over Venezuela in five innings, guaranteeing themselves a double opportunity to qualify for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.
Philippines Earns Dramatic Victory
One of the biggest moments of the day came when the Philippines completed a remarkable comeback to defeat Puerto Rico 5-4.
Trailing by three runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Philippines rallied to claim victory on a walk-off hit by Nicole Hammoude. The result kept the team’s Play-off hopes alive while handing Puerto Rico its first loss of the tournament.
Great Britain and Venezuela Stay in Contention
Great Britain strengthened its position in the standings with a 5-0 win over the Philippines.
Pitcher Georgina Corrick delivered a standout performance, allowing just one hit as Great Britain improved to 2-1 in the tournament.
Later in the day, Venezuela defeated tournament hosts Peru 10-0, finishing the day with one win and one loss. The victory lifted Venezuela to 2-2, keeping the team in contention for a Play-off place heading into the final day.
