Overseas Pakistani Files Rs. 178 Million Compensation Lawsuit Over Karachi Road Accident

An overseas Pakistani has filed a Rs. 178.07 million compensation lawsuit against the Sindh government, the BRT Red Line project administration, and the project’s contractor following a road accident in Karachi that allegedly resulted in the loss of one eye.

According to media reports, the case has been submitted before the Senior Civil Judge (East) and names the BRT Red Line project director and the contractor involved in the ongoing construction work.

Compensation Claim Filed

The plaintiff, Syed Waqas, is seeking compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, permanent disability, loss of income, and other damages related to the accident.

According to the petition, Waqas had traveled to Pakistan from overseas in 2025 and was on his way to Karachi airport via University Road when the incident occurred.

Allegations in the Lawsuit

The lawsuit alleges that the vehicle collided with a construction barrier installed as part of the BRT Red Line project.

According to the complaint, the barrier did not have adequate reflective markings, warning signs, or other safety features that would have made it more visible to motorists, particularly in low-visibility conditions.

The petition states that the accident resulted in the permanent loss of one eye as well as multiple facial injuries.

Court Asked to Award Compensation

The plaintiff argues that proper road safety measures were not implemented at the construction site and that these alleged shortcomings contributed to the accident.

Through the lawsuit, he has requested that the court direct the Sindh government, the BRT Red Line administration, and the contractor to jointly pay Rs. 178.07 million in compensation for medical treatment, rehabilitation, loss of income, permanent disability, and related damages.

The case is currently before the court, and the allegations made in the petition have yet to be adjudicated. No response from the defendants had been reported at the time of publication.
