Fatima Sana and Noor Zaman to Lead Pakistan Contingent
Pakistan has named women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana and squash player Noor Zaman as its flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) confirmed that the two athletes will carry the national flag during the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games on September 19.
The POA announced the decision in a statement, naming Noor Zaman from squash and Fatima Sana Khan, captain of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, as the official flag bearers for the national contingent.
Pakistan to Send 246 Athletes
Pakistan is set to participate in the Asian Games with 246 athletes competing across 23 sports.
The country’s contingent will take part in disciplines including:
- Cricket
- Squash
- Hockey
- Athletics
- Esports
The multi-sport event will run from September 19 to October 4, bringing athletes from across Asia together in Japan.
Fatima Sana’s Leadership Role
Fatima Sana enters the Asian Games as captain of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team and will represent the country at another major international sporting event.
Pakistan’s women’s cricket team is among the national squads competing in the tournament, with the cricket competition forming part of the country’s wider participation in Aichi-Nagoya.
Noor Zaman Represents Pakistan in Squash
Noor Zaman has been selected alongside Fatima Sana to carry the Pakistani flag at the opening ceremony.
The young squash player will also represent Pakistan in the squash competition as the national team looks to make an impact across multiple sports at the Games.
Accommodation Challenges in Japan
Organizers have faced accommodation challenges as the expected number of participants has increased.
Reports have indicated that the total number of people attending the Games could reach around 17,000, compared with an earlier estimate of approximately 15,000.
Unlike previous Asian Games, organizers have not established a traditional athletes’ village for the event. Temporary container-style accommodation has been arranged for some athletes and officials, while others will stay in hotels.
Some participants are also expected to be accommodated in Tokyo.
Cruise Ship to House Athletes
A significant number of athletes and officials are reportedly set to stay aboard the Costa Serena cruise ship.
The vessel docked near Nagoya on Tuesday and is expected to remain in the area until October 4, providing additional accommodation during the Asian Games.
With the opening ceremony scheduled for September 19, Pakistan’s athletes are now preparing to begin their campaign across 23 sporting disciplines in Aichi-Nagoya.
