Pakistan Railways Restores Mohenjo Daro Express After Six Months
Pakistan Railways has resumed the Mohenjo Daro Express service nearly six months after it was suspended due to low revenue.
The train restarted operations from Rohri Railway Station on Sunday, with six coaches carrying several hundred passengers. It later reached Larkana in the afternoon, where local residents gathered at the station to welcome the passengers and railway staff.
Passengers Celebrate Return of Train Service
The restoration came after a sustained campaign by regular passengers and residents who had called for the train service to be restored.
Local campaigners organized rallies in different areas of Sindh to highlight the importance of the service. Following its return, residents welcomed the train at Larkana station, with rose petals showered on the driver, railway staff, and passengers.
Railway officials and staff, including Station Master Ayaz Abbasi, also participated in the welcome event, while traditional Sindhi music was performed at the station.
Affordable Travel for Commuters
Campaign organizers said the suspension had affected many commuters who depended on the Mohenjo Daro Express for affordable transportation between Rohri and Kotri.
They appreciated the federal government and the railway authorities for supporting the restoration and urged passengers to use the service regularly.
According to the campaigners, maintaining strong passenger numbers and revenue will be important for the continued operation of the train.
Call for Railway Track Improvements
The campaign leaders also called for improvements to the Larkana-Karachi railway track.
They said upgrading the route could help facilitate the operation of other passenger services, including the Bolan Mail and Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, in the area.
The restoration of the Mohenjo Daro Express is expected to provide another affordable travel option for passengers travelling along the route.
