PCB Considers US-Based Training Program for Selected Cricketers

Report: Imran Sohail

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is evaluating a proposal to send a group of cricketers to the United States as part of a specialized player development program focused on power-hitting, fitness, and skill enhancement.

Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson confirmed that discussions are ongoing, although final plans and the list of participating players have yet to be finalized.

According to Hesson, the initiative aims to provide selected players with exposure to different training methods and environments. The program could allow participants to spend an extended period training at a single location, helping them develop new techniques and improve various aspects of their game.

The proposed camp is also expected to support players returning from injuries by offering a structured environment focused on fitness, conditioning, and long-term development.

The initiative aligns with the PCB’s recent efforts to strengthen fitness and sports science standards within Pakistan cricket. Earlier this year, the board appointed Dr. Javed Mughal as Director of Sports and Exercise Medicine as part of its broader player development strategy.

Hesson noted that the program is designed to complement ongoing improvements in training, performance assessment, and athlete management.

Among the players reportedly under consideration is young fast bowler Ali Raza. The 18-year-old has impressed at age-group and domestic levels, including strong performances in the Under-19 Asia Cup and the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

While Ali Raza is yet to make his international debut, the PCB is focused on managing his development carefully. The board aims to enhance his fitness and workload capacity to help prepare him for the demands of top-level cricket in the future.
