PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaches London Ahead of UN General Assembly Visit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in London for a short stopover before travelling to New York to attend the high-level segment of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier is expected to leave for the United States on Saturday. He is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 25.

Prime Minister Expected to Stay in London for Two Days

PM Shehbaz reached London on Thursday and is expected to spend around two days there before continuing his journey to New York.

Officials said the stopover was arranged partly because of the long travel distance between Pakistan and the United States. Following his UNGA engagements, the prime minister is expected to return to Pakistan around September 27 or 28, with another short stop in London possible.

Shehbaz Sharif to Address UN General Assembly

The prime minister’s address is scheduled for September 25 during the general debate of the 81st UN General Assembly.

The United Nations says the general debate will take place from September 22 to 26 and resume on September 28. The theme of this year’s session is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

Pakistan’s delegation is expected to include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers and senior government officials.

Pakistan’s Position on Global and Regional Issues

During the UNGA visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to present Pakistan’s views on major regional and international developments.

The Foreign Office has said that the premier will also hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders and attend several high-level events on the sidelines of the UN session.

The visit comes as international attention remains focused on tensions involving the United States and Iran. Regional security, the Strait of Hormuz and diplomatic efforts to address the confrontation are expected to be among the issues discussed by world leaders.

UNGA Brings World Leaders Together

The annual UN General Assembly high-level week brings heads of state and government together in New York to discuss international challenges and national priorities.

The United Nations has listed several high-level meetings during the 2026 session, covering issues including development, climate action, sea-level rise and pandemic preparedness.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s participation will provide Pakistan with an opportunity to outline its position on regional developments and engage with other governments during the UNGA week.
