Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq Lead Pakistan’s Recovery in First Test Against West Indies

Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq produced a valuable second-wicket partnership to help Pakistan recover from an early setback on day two of the first Test against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
At the close of play, Pakistan reached 199/3 in their first innings, trailing the West Indies by 112 runs after the hosts were dismissed for 311.
Early Wicket Puts Pakistan Under Pressure
Pakistan’s innings began with an early setback when opener Azan Awais was dismissed for a duck after being bowled by veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach.
The early breakthrough gave the West Indies momentum, but Pakistan responded with a composed partnership between Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq.
Shan and Imam Build Strong Partnership
The pair added 155 runs for the second wicket, helping Pakistan stabilize the innings and regain control.
Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 88 from 137 balls, striking 11 boundaries, while Imam-ul-Haq scored a patient 63 off 102 deliveries, including seven fours.
Both batters reached half-centuries during their partnership, which laid a solid foundation for Pakistan’s innings.
Babar Azam Makes Useful Contribution
After Imam’s dismissal, Babar Azam joined Shan Masood at the crease and contributed 23 runs from 38 balls, hitting three fours.
The partnership added 41 runs before Babar was dismissed by Jayden Seales, leaving Pakistan at 197/3.
At stumps, Salman Ali Agha was unbeaten alongside Shan Masood as Pakistan prepared to continue its innings on day three.
West Indies Posted 311 in First Innings
Earlier in the match, the West Indies were bowled out for 311 in their first innings.
Shai Hope top-scored with 92, narrowly missing a century, while Kevlon Hodge contributed 84. Shamar Joseph added a quick 23, while several other batters made useful contributions.
Mohammad Ali Impresses with the Ball
Pakistan’s bowling attack kept the West Indies under pressure throughout the innings.
Fast bowler Mohammad Ali was the standout performer, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 50 runs.
Mohammad Abbas claimed 3 wickets, while Khurram Shahzad picked up 2, and Aamer Jamal added one wicket to complete the bowling effort.
With Shan Masood still at the crease and Pakistan trailing by 112 runs, the visitors will look to build a first-innings lead when play resumes on day three of the opening Test.
