Sindh Expands HIV Screening Across SESSI Hospitals
The Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI) has expanded HIV screening across all of its hospitals as part of an ongoing public health initiative aimed at strengthening early detection and patient care.
According to a statement issued by SESSI Commissioner Hadi Baksh Kalhoro, HIV screening is being carried out for outpatients, admitted patients, and children at hospitals operated by the institution.
Review of Patient Records Underway
SESSI officials said the institution is reviewing records of outpatient and admitted patients who received treatment at its hospitals since January 2025.
According to the commissioner, if any patient treated during this period is found to be HIV-positive, the relevant circumstances will be reviewed in accordance with established procedures to better understand possible sources of infection and ensure appropriate follow-up.
Province-Wide Screening Initiative
Kalhoro said the Sindh Health Department and the Sindh Labour Department are jointly conducting HIV screening not only at SESSI hospitals but also across government hospitals throughout the province.
The initiative is intended to strengthen disease surveillance, support early diagnosis, and improve access to treatment for affected individuals.
Screening Results at Landhi and Valika Hospitals
According to SESSI, a four-month-old infant who visited Landhi Hospital was identified as HIV-positive during routine screening. The child’s mother was also tested and found to be HIV-positive. Officials stated that further follow-up efforts are continuing in accordance with standard public health procedures.
The commissioner said that screening of approximately 2,000 individuals in and around Landhi Hospital has identified 10 HIV-positive cases.
At Valika Hospital, officials reported that 120 children and adults tested HIV-positive among approximately 10,000 people screened to date.
Continued Medical Care and Family Support
SESSI said its hospitals and dispensaries continue to provide healthcare services to both outpatient and admitted patients.
The institution is also compiling detailed records of children diagnosed with HIV and their family members to help ensure they receive appropriate medical treatment, counseling, and welfare support through the relevant healthcare programs.
Health officials continue to encourage early testing, timely medical consultation, and adherence to recommended treatment plans as part of ongoing efforts to improve public health outcomes across Sindh.
