Switzerland Defeats Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 to Strengthen World Cup Qualification Hopes
Switzerland moved closer to securing a place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after earning a convincing 4-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in a Group B encounter.
The match remained closely contested for much of the evening before Switzerland produced a strong attacking display in the final stages. Substitute Johan Manzambi made an immediate impact, scoring twice after entering the game in the second half.
Manzambi opened the scoring in the 74th minute with a well-taken finish inside the penalty area, giving Switzerland the breakthrough they had been searching for. Bosnia-Herzegovina’s task became even more difficult shortly afterward when Tarik Muharemovic was shown a red card, reducing his team to 10 players.
Taking advantage of the extra space, Switzerland extended their lead through Ruben Vargas, who found the net with a composed finish. Vargas later assisted Manzambi’s second goal of the match as Switzerland took full control of the contest.
Captain Granit Xhaka added a fourth goal from the penalty spot during stoppage time after a foul inside the box. Bosnia-Herzegovina managed to pull one back late in the game when Ermin Mahmic scored with an impressive volley following a corner kick.
Despite creating several opportunities earlier in the match, Switzerland struggled to convert their chances before eventually breaking through in the final 20 minutes. Bosnia also showed attacking intent at times, with experienced forward Edin Dzeko making his first appearance of the tournament, but the team was unable to find a way back into the match.
