Emma Raducanu Eager for Aryna Sabalenka Clash in Cincinnati
British tennis star Emma Raducanu is looking forward to her upcoming match against world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka at the Cincinnati Open, describing it as a “fact-finding match” and a valuable opportunity to assess her progress against the very best in the sport.
The 30th seed Raducanu, making her first appearance as a WTA 1000 seed in years, began her Cincinnati campaign in style with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 victory over world No. 43 Olga Danilovic. Sabalenka, meanwhile, overcame a challenging opener, defeating 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 7-5, 6-1.
This will be the third meeting between Raducanu and Sabalenka. Their first encounter came at the 2024 Indian Wells, where Raducanu delivered a strong performance before falling 3-6, 5-7. In their second match at Wimbledon, the Briton pushed Sabalenka even harder but lost 7-6(6), 6-4 in a closely fought contest.
Speaking ahead of the match, Raducanu shared her excitement:
“It’s always exciting to face the very top players because it’s a chance to see exactly where you stand. Tennis form can change so much from one day to the next—you might lose heavily one day and make it close or even win the next. I’m really looking forward to this match.”
Raducanu has limited experience against top-10 players but has claimed notable wins, including victories over Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari last season. In 2025, her sole top-10 triumph so far came against Emma Navarro.
The match against Sabalenka gives Raducanu a rare chance to score her first-ever win over a world No. 1—a challenge she is embracing with full determination.
