Davis Cup 2025: USA and Czech Republic Tied 1-1 After Opening Day in Delray Beach

The USA and Czech Republic are level at 1-1 after the first day of their Davis Cup Qualifiers clash in Delray Beach, Florida. Both teams produced strong performances on the outdoor hard courts, setting the stage for a thrilling weekend.

Lehecka Puts Czech Republic Ahead

Czech star Jiri Lehecka gave his team an early lead with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win over Frances Tiafoe. The match lasted just under 80 minutes, with Lehecka dominating from the baseline. He saved all break points he faced and converted three of six chances on Tiafoe’s serve.

The first set was sealed with a break in game eight, and the second set saw Lehecka secure two more breaks to close out a routine victory.

Fritz Levels for Team USA

With the Americans under pressure, Taylor Fritz stepped up in the second rubber against Jakub Mensik, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory in one hour and 41 minutes.

Fritz was strong on serve, saving three of five break points and converting five breaks of his own from 13 opportunities. Despite a late hiccup when he failed to serve out the match at 5-2, Fritz regained composure, breaking Mensik again at 5-3 to seal the win.

What’s Next

With the tie locked at 1-1, the doubles match and Sunday’s reverse singles will decide which team advances. The Americans will rely on home support, while the Czech squad will look to build on Lehecka’s impressive start.

The stage is set for an exciting finish in Delray Beach as both nations chase a spot in the next round of the Davis Cup 2025.
