Severe Storm in Bannu Damages Homes and Injures at Least 20 People

At least 20 people, including women and children, were injured after a strong storm accompanied by high winds struck Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, causing damage to residential and commercial structures.

According to Rescue 1122, the storm led to the collapse of roofs and walls in several areas of the district. Many residents were reportedly trapped under debris before emergency teams reached the affected locations.

Rescue officials said teams were immediately dispatched to multiple sites after receiving emergency calls. The injured were rescued, provided first aid on the spot, and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Bannu for further medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that rescue operations continued throughout the day as teams responded to reports from different parts of the district. Efforts are ongoing to assess the extent of damage and identify additional affected families.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier issued an advisory warning of dust storms and thunderstorms in upper parts of the country between June 2 and June 5, urging citizens to take precautionary measures.

Following the incident, Rescue 1122 placed its emergency response teams on high alert to deal with any further weather-related emergencies. Officials also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and stay away from weak or damaged structures.

The storm caused widespread disruption across several localities, damaging homes, shops, and other buildings.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as relief and assessment work remains underway in the affected areas.
