DaVinci Resolve 21 Released with New Photo Editing Tools and Workflow Enhancements

Blackmagic Design has officially launched DaVinci Resolve 21, introducing a wide range of new features for video editors, photographers, colorists, and content creators.

The latest version brings significant updates across editing, color grading, visual effects, audio production, and workflow management. One of the most notable additions is a dedicated Photo page, expanding the software’s capabilities beyond video editing.

New Photo Editing Workspace

DaVinci Resolve 21 introduces a dedicated Photo page that allows users to manage and edit still images within the same application.

Photographers can organize images using albums, ratings, tags, and collections while applying advanced editing tools directly inside Resolve. The update also includes support for importing photo libraries and working with RAW image formats from a variety of camera manufacturers.

Users can apply professional color grading tools, effects, curves, and adjustments to photographs using the same workflow that has made Resolve popular among video professionals.

AI-Powered Features

The new release includes several artificial intelligence tools designed to streamline creative workflows.

Among the additions is IntelliSearch, which helps users locate clips and content more efficiently within large projects. AI-powered enhancement tools also assist with image refinement and subject-focused adjustments, helping creators speed up common editing tasks.

Editing and Motion Graphics Improvements

Editors will benefit from enhanced keyframing controls, improved animation options, and expanded support for graphics and text customization.

The update introduces additional motion graphics capabilities, making it easier to create animations, titles, and visual effects. New workflow improvements also simplify timeline management, subtitle editing, multicamera projects, and collaborative editing environments.

Enhanced Color and Audio Tools

DaVinci Resolve 21 delivers upgrades for color grading workflows, including expanded color management options and improved support for HDR content.

Audio professionals using Fairlight will also find new organizational tools designed to improve efficiency when working on complex projects and larger audio mixes.

Broader Camera and File Support

The software now supports additional image and video formats from major camera brands, improving compatibility for photographers, filmmakers, and hybrid content creators.

Expanded RAW file support and improved media handling provide greater flexibility when working with high-quality footage and still images.

Collaboration and Performance Updates

Blackmagic Design has also improved project management and cloud collaboration features. Faster synchronization, enhanced media organization, and workflow optimizations aim to make team-based production more efficient.

The company says these improvements are designed to help creators manage projects more smoothly across different devices and production environments.

Availability

DaVinci Resolve 21 is available as a free download, while the Studio edition offers additional advanced features, including enhanced AI tools and professional-grade export capabilities.

With its expanded photo editing features and extensive workflow improvements, DaVinci Resolve 21 represents one of the most comprehensive updates to the software in recent years.
