Government Considers Possible Tax Relief for Beauty and Fitness Sector Imports

The federal government is reportedly reviewing proposals to reduce import duties on a range of products used in the beauty, skincare, and fitness industries as part of the upcoming budget.

According to sources, the proposals are under consideration as part of a review of relevant customs notifications. The suggested changes aim to reduce costs for businesses operating in salons, skincare clinics, gyms, and wellness centers.

Proposed Duty Reductions Under Review

Sources indicate that import duties on certain raw materials used in beauty salons and skincare treatments may be reduced. These include products used in cosmetics, hair care, and sun protection.

Similar reductions are also being considered for grooming products used in men’s salons, including shaving creams, aftershave lotions, face washes, and related items.

Potential Relief for Skincare Clinics

The proposed adjustments may also extend to skincare clinics, where imported creams and lotions used in treatments and procedures could see reduced import duties under the new structure.

Support for Fitness and Health Clubs

According to sources, gyms, fitness centers, and slimming clinics may also benefit from reduced duties on imported machinery, equipment, and spare parts used in their operations.

Objective of the Proposal

Officials say the proposed changes are aimed at lowering operational costs in service-based industries and reducing the impact of high import duties on essential business inputs.
