Pakistan Increases Petrol and Diesel Prices for Second Consecutive Week
Islamabad: The federal government has announced another increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), marking the second consecutive weekly revision amid continued volatility in global oil markets.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised fuel prices came into effect on Friday night.
New Fuel Prices
Under the latest revision:
- Petrol has increased by Rs. 5.44 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs. 316.15 per litre.
- High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has risen by Rs. 31.05 per litre, taking the new price to Rs. 354.35 per litre.
The updated rates will remain in effect until the next official review under the government’s fuel pricing mechanism.
Global Oil Market Volatility
Officials attributed the latest adjustment to fluctuations in international crude oil prices. Market uncertainty has increased following recent geopolitical developments involving the United States and Iran, contributing to higher global energy prices.
At the time of the announcement, Brent crude oil was trading at around $87 per barrel.
Daily Price Updates
The government has also indicated that fuel prices will now be reviewed and updated on a daily basis until further notice, replacing the previous weekly adjustment schedule.
Fuel Supply Concerns
Earlier in the week, reports of temporary fuel shortages were received from several cities, where some petrol stations experienced supply disruptions. Authorities have been monitoring the situation to ensure fuel availability.
Recent Price Trend
The latest revision follows last week’s increase, when:
- Petrol prices rose by Rs. 13 per litre to Rs. 310.71 per litre.
- High-speed diesel increased by Rs. 14 per litre to Rs. 323.30 per litre.
Over recent months, fuel prices in Pakistan have experienced significant fluctuations in line with movements in international oil markets and exchange rate changes.
