Authorities Warn Pakistanis About Fake Overseas Job Scams in Southeast Asia
Islamabad: Pakistani authorities have warned citizens to be cautious of fraudulent overseas job offers after investigations highlighted concerns about organized recruitment scams targeting job seekers.
According to official data, 3,313 Pakistanis who traveled to Cambodia on visit visas over the past three years have not returned, prompting concerns that some may have become victims of illegal recruitment and human trafficking networks.
Concerns Over Fraudulent Job Offers
Authorities say some criminal groups allegedly attract individuals with promises of high-paying jobs in Southeast Asia. After arrival, victims may be forced to participate in illegal online activities under coercive conditions.
Investigations suggest these networks use visit visas to facilitate travel to countries including Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar, where victims may face exploitation.
Travel Figures
Official records show:
- 2024: 13,039 Pakistanis traveled to Cambodia, with 1,190 not returning.
- 2025: 11,488 Pakistanis visited Cambodia, while 1,933 remained abroad.
- 2026: So far, 395 Pakistanis have traveled to Cambodia, and 189 have not yet returned.
Authorities are continuing to examine these figures as part of ongoing investigations.
Public Advisory
Officials have urged job seekers and their families to carefully verify overseas employment opportunities before making travel arrangements.
They recommend confirming the authenticity of employers, recruitment agencies, and visa documentation through official channels, especially when offered unusually high salaries or promises that appear unrealistic.
Authorities also encouraged citizens to report suspicious recruitment offers to the relevant government agencies to help prevent potential fraud and protect others from becoming victims.
