Security Forces Foil Suspected Terror Plot in South Waziristan, One Suspect Killed
Pakistan’s security forces have foiled a suspected terrorist plot during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Wana, South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to security sources.
Officials said an explosives-laden vehicle was intercepted during the operation. According to security sources, one suspected militant was killed, while five others were injured.
Operation Conducted After Surveillance
Security sources stated that the vehicle had remained under surveillance for three days before action was taken. Officials said the operation was carried out only after the vehicle had moved away from populated areas to minimize the risk to civilians and property.
The vehicle, reportedly carrying explosive material, was destroyed during the operation. Authorities believe it was intended for use in a planned attack, although investigations are ongoing.
Recent Counterterrorism Operations
The development follows another security operation in Bannu district, where the military said multiple suspected militants were killed during intelligence-based operations conducted in response to recent security incidents.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in militant attacks in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent years. Security forces continue to conduct intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing attacks and dismantling militant networks.
Authorities have said counterterrorism efforts remain ongoing, while investigations continue into recent security-related incidents.
