Karachi Launches Rs. 100 Million Project to Upgrade Fire and Rescue Services
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a Rs. 100 million development project aimed at strengthening the city’s fire, rescue, and emergency response infrastructure.
The initiative, announced under the direction of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, includes the renovation, expansion, and establishment of several emergency facilities across the city to improve public safety.
Coastal Rescue Center to Be Upgraded
A key component of the project is the modernization of KMC’s Emergency Response Center, with a special focus on improving rescue operations along Karachi’s coastline, including Hawksbay Beach.
The upgraded center will feature improved communication and coordination systems to support faster emergency response. It will also enhance the deployment of rescue teams, lifesaving equipment, and emergency resources during coastal incidents.
New Fire Station Planned in Maripur
As part of the initiative, KMC will establish a new fire station in Maripur to serve nearby industrial, commercial, and residential areas.
The new facility is expected to reduce emergency response times and strengthen firefighting and rescue services in one of Karachi’s key industrial zones.
Existing Fire Stations to Be Modernized
The project also includes the rehabilitation of several existing facilities, including:
- Rainbow Center Fire Station
- Lyari Fire Station
- KMC Fire Headquarters
These upgrades are intended to improve the operational readiness and overall capacity of Karachi’s fire and rescue services.
Focus on Public Safety
Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the city administration is committed to modernizing emergency services in line with international standards while enhancing Karachi’s emergency response network.
According to the mayor, the upgraded infrastructure will improve the city’s ability to respond more effectively to fires, road accidents, industrial emergencies, natural disasters, and coastal rescue operations.
He added that strengthening emergency services remains a priority as KMC continues investing in public safety infrastructure to build a safer and more resilient Karachi.
