Pakistan Signs Agreement with Chinese Company to Expand EV Charging Network

Pakistan has taken another step toward promoting electric mobility with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between StarCharge Energy Pakistan and Bahum Global Ltd of China to support the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the country.

The agreement aims to strengthen Pakistan’s growing EV ecosystem through international cooperation, technology sharing, and support for local manufacturing.

EV Charging Stations to Be Developed Nationwide

Under the MoU, Bahum Global Ltd will provide technological expertise and work with StarCharge Energy Pakistan to establish EV charging stations in different parts of the country.

The expansion of charging infrastructure is expected to improve access to charging facilities and encourage the wider adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan.

Government Highlights Electric Mobility Vision

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, said the government is committed to modernizing Pakistan’s transportation sector by promoting electric mobility.

He added that the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System Policy is expected to support the growth of the EV industry while encouraging investment and innovation.

Focus on Local Manufacturing

Officials said the government is also encouraging the local production of lithium-ion batteries, with the goal of building a sustainable industrial ecosystem and attracting foreign investment.

The initiative is expected to contribute to technology transfer, industrial development, and employment opportunities in the country’s clean energy sector.
