Oil Prices Decline as Markets Assess US-Iran Developments

Global oil prices slipped by around 1% on Tuesday as investors monitored developments surrounding the temporary pause in US strikes on Iran and hopes for a possible diplomatic solution.

The decline came as markets considered the possibility of improved stability in the Middle East, which could help ease concerns over disruptions to global energy supplies.

Brent and WTI Prices Fall

International benchmark Brent crude futures dropped $0.54, or 0.6%, to $87.82 per barrel.

Meanwhile, US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined $0.66, or 0.8%, to $81.95 per barrel.

Both oil contracts had earlier fallen by about 1%, reaching their lowest levels in more than a week.

Investors Watch US-Iran Talks

Market sentiment was influenced by comments from US President Donald Trump, who said that Washington and Tehran were holding positive discussions and that a possible agreement could be reached.

However, he warned that US military action could resume if negotiations failed, while Iran also maintained that it would respond to any attacks.

Analysts said expectations of a diplomatic breakthrough reduced some of the risk premium in oil prices, although the situation remains uncertain.

Middle East Shipping Concerns Continue

Concerns over shipping activity in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz continue to affect energy markets.

Analysts noted that oil prices have remained under pressure despite ongoing regional tensions because weaker demand, particularly in Asia, has limited further increases.

According to market analysts, crude oil and refined product exports through the Strait of Hormuz declined significantly during the week ending July 24 compared with the previous week.

US Oil Inventories in Focus

Traders are also awaiting fresh data on US crude inventories. A preliminary Reuters survey suggested that crude oil and gasoline stocks may have declined last week, while distillate inventories were likely higher.

Investors will continue watching geopolitical developments, shipping conditions, and supply-demand trends for further direction in global oil prices.
