Punjab Deploys Thermal Drones to Track Air Pollution and Identify Violators
The Punjab government has introduced thermal drone surveillance to strengthen efforts against air pollution and identify sources of harmful emissions across Lahore and other parts of the province.
Officials said the technology will allow authorities to locate smoke and pollution sources more efficiently. Once a suspected source is identified, field teams can be dispatched to the location to inspect the site and take action against violations.
Thermal Drones to Support Pollution Control
The new surveillance system is expected to improve monitoring of industrial areas and other potential sources of air pollution.
Thermal drones can assist authorities in identifying emission sources that may be difficult to detect through conventional monitoring methods. Officials said the information gathered through aerial surveillance will help enforcement teams respond more quickly.
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader efforts to control pollution and prepare for the worsening air quality associated with the smog season.
Hundreds of Industrial Sites and Brick Kilns Inspected
During the past 24 hours, authorities inspected 243 industrial units across Punjab, including 28 facilities in Lahore.
Officials also monitored 366 brick kilns across the province as part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Action against businesses and facilities found violating pollution-control requirements is continuing, according to officials.
Restaurants Also Under Monitoring
Authorities are also checking smoke-control equipment at restaurants and food businesses.
During the latest inspection drive, 233 restaurants and food outlets were checked, with a particular focus on suction hoods and systems designed to control smoke emissions.
The government says continued monitoring of industrial units, brick kilns, restaurants and other pollution sources is intended to reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality across Punjab.
With thermal drone surveillance now being added to enforcement operations, authorities are aiming to identify pollution sources more quickly and take timely action against those found responsible.
