KP Budget 2026-27: CM Afridi Promises Financial Stability and Development Focus

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has presented the provincial budget for 2026-27, stating that it aims to strengthen financial stability and support long-term development in the province.

Speaking in the provincial assembly in Peshawar, the chief minister said that despite ongoing financial challenges since 2013, the province is now moving towards improved governance and development progress.

The budget session also saw protest from opposition lawmakers, who raised concerns over government performance and accountability. The opposition accused the provincial administration of not meeting its financial and development targets, while treasury members defended the budget proposals.

Key Budget Highlights

The provincial government has allocated significant funds across key sectors, including law enforcement, health, education, infrastructure, and social welfare.

A major portion of the budget has been set aside for police modernization, including procurement of advanced equipment, vehicles, communication systems, and protective gear. Additional funding has also been allocated for operational support and the expansion of Safe City projects in multiple districts.

In the health sector, the Sehat Card Plus programme has received an increased allocation, along with additional funding for medical teaching institutions and new healthcare facilities.

The education sector will see investment in the establishment of new model schools, universities, and youth internship programmes, aiming to improve access to quality education and skill development opportunities.

Infrastructure development remains a priority, with funding allocated for roads, flyovers, underpasses, public transport systems, and urban development projects, particularly in Peshawar.

Social welfare initiatives include support for the transgender community, solarisation projects in merged districts, and other targeted development programmes.

Opposition Reaction

Opposition representatives criticised the government’s performance, claiming that previous targets had not been achieved and raising concerns about the implementation of development plans. They called for greater transparency and accountability in budget execution.

Outlook

The provincial government says the budget is designed to promote stability, improve public services, and support economic growth across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the coming fiscal year.
