Punjab Activates Early Warning System Ahead of Heavy Monsoon Rains

The Punjab government has activated an early warning system to improve preparedness ahead of the upcoming spell of heavy monsoon rainfall across the province.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant departments to ensure timely weather alerts and complete all necessary arrangements to respond effectively to any potential flooding or rain-related emergencies.

Authorities Asked to Remain on High Alert

During a meeting on the monsoon preparedness plan, officials informed the chief minister that heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of Punjab, including areas of the Potohar region.

In response, all concerned departments have been instructed to remain on high alert, strengthen emergency response measures, and complete advance preparations to minimize the risk of urban flooding and other weather-related disruptions.

More Monsoon Activity Expected

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuing to enter the upper parts of the country, increasing the likelihood of widespread monsoon activity.

The weather forecast indicates that rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms, including isolated heavy rainfall, are expected in several cities across Punjab on July 11 and 12.

Public Safety Advisory

The chief minister also urged the public to take necessary precautions during the rainy season.

Parents have been advised to closely supervise children, keep them away from deep or accumulated rainwater, and avoid allowing them to go outside alone during periods of heavy rainfall.

The provincial government has reiterated its commitment to monitoring the weather situation and responding promptly to any emergencies that may arise during the ongoing monsoon season.
