Room Cooler Prices Surge by Up to 40% Amid Heatwave and Inflation
Prices of room coolers and related cooling equipment have increased significantly this year, driven by rising temperatures and inflation, putting additional pressure on consumers during the summer season.
According to market reports, the cost of cooler accessories such as khus grass, motors, and maintenance services has also gone up sharply compared to previous years. Temporary roadside stalls selling and installing khus grass have become more common due to increased seasonal demand.
The cost of replacing khus in a small cooler now ranges between Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 2,700. For larger Lahori coolers, prices have increased to around Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 3,800, while jumbo-sized cooler refilling can cost up to Rs. 5,000.
Traders estimate that prices of cooler-related products have risen by nearly 40 percent this year. A standard cooler motor now costs around Rs. 4,000, while smaller motors for solar or battery-operated units range from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000. Water pumps are available between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,000.
Room cooler prices have also seen a sharp upward trend. A small cooler that previously cost around Rs. 8,000 is now priced between Rs. 14,000 and Rs. 15,000. Medium-sized models have increased to approximately Rs. 18,000, while large units are being sold for around Rs. 23,000.
Some retailers are offering installment plans, although these often include additional charges over the original price. Premium and branded models with updated designs are now priced significantly higher.
Meanwhile, demand for air-conditioner maintenance services has also increased. Service charges for AC cleaning and gas refilling have risen, with technicians reporting higher workloads and longer response times due to seasonal demand.
Consumers are being advised to compare prices and service options carefully before making purchases during the peak summer period.
