Lahore to Deploy Drones for Smarter Traffic Management
LAHORE – In a major step towards easing traffic congestion, authorities in Lahore have announced the use of drone technology to monitor and manage traffic jams across the city.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), is set to begin in late September and will focus on improving real-time monitoring of the city’s busiest roads.
First Phase of Drone Deployment
According to officials, ten drones equipped with high-resolution cameras will be deployed during the first phase. These drones will keep a close watch on traffic hotspots where jams and bottlenecks occur frequently.
The live video feed from the drones will be connected directly to traffic wardens’ LTE handsets, enabling them to quickly respond and take action on the ground. This will help clear congestion more efficiently and reduce waiting times for commuters.
Expanding Coverage Across the City
Authorities believe that aerial monitoring will play a crucial role in improving traffic flow and reducing road delays. Officials have confirmed that the number of drones will be gradually increased in the coming months to ensure wider coverage across Lahore.
The move is part of the city’s broader efforts to adopt smart solutions for urban management, making Lahore’s roads safer and more efficient for daily commuters.
