Storm Disrupts Traffic After High-Voltage Lines Fall on M-5 Motorway

Strong winds and stormy weather caused disruption on the M-5 Motorway after high-transmission electricity lines fell onto the roadway near Rahim Yar Khan, leading to traffic restrictions and temporary diversions.

According to Motorway Police officials, the incident occurred at Point 510, where high-voltage cables came down across both directions of the motorway, creating a safety hazard for commuters.

As a precautionary measure, authorities suspended the movement of heavy transport and public service vehicles between Rohri and Rahim Yar Khan. Traffic entering the M-5 from Rohri and Pano Aqil was also restricted to ensure public safety.

Motorway Police officials said that vehicles have been diverted to alternative routes. Diversion points have been established at Iqbalabad and Guddu to manage traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Travelers moving between Punjab and Sindh have been advised to use National Highway N-5 as an alternate route via Rahim Yar Khan before rejoining the motorway once conditions normalize.

Authorities stated that efforts are underway to remove the fallen electricity lines and restore normal traffic on the affected section of the motorway as soon as possible.

No reports of major injuries were confirmed at the time of reporting.
