Korea Beat Japan 2-0 to Win U-18 Asia Baseball Championship

Korea captured the 2026 U-18 Asian Baseball Championship after defeating Japan 2-0 in the final, completing an unbeaten campaign in the tournament.
The victory was built around an outstanding pitching performance from 18-year-old left-hander Hyunseung Ha, who restricted Japan to just one hit across the complete game.
Korea and Japan also secured qualification for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2027, while Chinese Taipei earned the third Asian qualification spot after winning the bronze-medal match.
Hyunseung Ha Shines in Championship Final
Ha was the key figure for Korea throughout the tournament. Against Japan, he allowed only one hit and two walks while pitching all nine innings.
The 194-centimetre pitcher is regarded as one of the leading prospects for the upcoming Korea Baseball Organisation (KBO) Amateur Draft. His fastball has been clocked above 150 kilometres per hour.
Ha had also impressed in Korea’s opening game against tournament hosts Chinese Taipei, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up only two hits.
Korea Score Twice Against Japan
Korea broke the deadlock in the bottom of the second inning after taking advantage of a Japanese defensive error.
The Korean team added another run in the fifth inning when right fielder Hiunseon Cho delivered an RBI single against Japanese reliever Yugo Suzuki.
Japan could not find a response as Ha continued to control the game from the mound, allowing Korea to secure a 2-0 victory and the championship title.
It was Korea’s second win over Japan in the tournament. Korea had previously defeated Japan 3-2 in a dramatic Super Round matchup.
Japan Defeat Chinese Taipei to Reach Final
After losing to Korea, Japan faced Chinese Taipei in a crucial playoff for a place in the championship game.
Japan sent highly regarded right-hander Shoki Oda to the mound, and he delivered a strong performance. Oda pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out seven batters.
Japan eventually secured a 2-1 victory, with Kenshim Manya recording the final three outs to earn the save.
The game attracted around 7,000 spectators, including scouts representing 18 Major League Baseball teams.
Oda has attracted attention from both MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball after recording a fastball speed of 156 kilometres per hour and striking out 34 batters in 27 innings during the Summer Koshien tournament.
Chinese Taipei Take Bronze
Chinese Taipei finished third after recording a commanding 13-0 victory over the Philippines in the bronze-medal game.
The game ended after five innings, giving Chinese Taipei the final Asian qualification place for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2027.

2027 World Cup Qualification
Korea, Japan and Chinese Taipei will represent Asia at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2027 after finishing in the top three positions at the continental championship.
Korea’s unbeaten run and dominant pitching performance in the final secured the Asian title, while Japan and Chinese Taipei also booked their places at next year’s global U-18 tournament.
