Mohamed Salah Suffers Knee Injury in Egypt’s World Cup Draw Against Iran

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah was forced off with a left knee injury during his team’s 1-1 FIFA World Cup group-stage draw against Iran on Friday, raising concerns ahead of the knockout stage.

The 34-year-old forward was substituted in the 57th minute and replaced by Mostafa Zico. After the match, Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan said Salah would undergo further medical evaluation once the team returned to its hotel.

Speaking after the game, Hassan said Salah told him the injury did not appear to be serious.

“I spoke with Salah, and he told me he feels he will be OK. He doesn’t think it’s a major injury,” Hassan said. “Our medical staff will continue to assess him, but we are hopeful he will be available again.”

Egypt has already secured a place in the Round of 16, marking the country’s first time advancing beyond the group stage under the expanded World Cup format.

However, Salah’s fitness remains an important factor as Egypt prepares to face Australia in the knockout round next Friday.

The former Liverpool star has played a key role in Egypt’s campaign, scoring his 68th international goal during the team’s 3-1 victory over New Zealand. He has also contributed two assists in the tournament, highlighting his importance to the Pharaohs’ attack.

Team officials are expected to provide an update on Salah’s condition after further medical examinations.
