Pakistan Extends Airspace Restrictions on Indian Aircraft Until June 24

The Pakistan Airports Authority has extended restrictions on Indian aircraft using Pakistani airspace until June 24, according to a newly issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).

Under the latest directive, Pakistani airspace will remain closed to all aircraft registered in India. The restrictions also apply to aircraft operated, owned, or leased by Indian airlines and operators, including military aircraft.

Officials stated that the restrictions cover both of Pakistan’s major Flight Information Regions, including Karachi and Lahore.

The latest extension was announced shortly before the previous restrictions were scheduled to expire on May 24.

Due to the continued airspace closure, Indian airlines have been forced to use longer alternative routes for flights traveling to Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Aviation analysts say the rerouting has increased flight durations as well as operational fuel costs for carriers.

The development comes amid ongoing regional aviation and operational considerations affecting international flight routes in South Asia.
